Since we have no 1890 Census accessible, we must go to 1880 for Milkies parents (Pearla's grandparents). Further research could be made of the tax records and voting records to discover if this family were in this area between census.
(Keep in mind that not all people owned property nor could they all afford to pay Poll Taxes.)

At this point we find that in 1860 black slaves were not listed by name in the Census Records.
By using the slave index for the book "No Land.....Only Slaves" we find the following information that indicates the family groupings that led to our descendant chart:

Deeds & Conveyances Books of Bossier Parish, Louisiana
Volume 4, page 247; Recorded 1 Jun 1857; From Doyle, Alzira to Boon, E.R

88 slaves listed including the following:
Tally 50
Mahala 45
Ellison 16
Teague 15
Blake 8
Milkey 4
Thomas 15 months
------ --
------ --
Charley 37
Lizzy 30
Tamer 16
Tally 6
Levi 4
Noah 2
Hester 8 months
Braddus 70
Hester 55
Calvin 24

In the 1870 and 1880 Census, evidence is found linking these families together. Charley and his wife chose to take the surname Wilson, Calvin chose Armsted, and Tally chose Miller. Tally's daughter married Andrew Harris. Yet even with the different surnames, we can group these people by using common threads such as name patterns and neighborhoods.
Following a single line backwards, then using the slave groupings to locate relations in the censuses, we can flesh out these families.
While relationships and ages are not always clearly defined in the early census records for black families, it is now possible to take them at least back to the slave owners by adding the slave index and abstracts found in "No Land......Only Slaves" to one's research tools..
